Does Fido have a job?

Does he know what it is? Does he know when he is “working”, and when he is “off duty?” Dogs, like all of us, need a J-O-B. It gives them a purpose, an action to please, to get a “good ‘ol boy” from his mom or dad. Don’t you feel better when you have accomplished a job well done? Yes- well, so does Fido!! He gets so excited to please you!! He loves to hear he’s done a “good job”. Wagging tails of a happy Fido. Fido can’t drive to the store to get the groceries but he can guard the house while you are away. So let him know as you leave, “Hey Buddy, guard the house. I’ll be home in an hour.” He will delight in knowing he has such an important job! We all need to be needed. Then when you return home don’t forget to tell Fido he did a great job guarding the house! (unless of course he chose to sleep and someone robbed your place). Thank him and tell him he is “off duty” for now—that should stop the barking unless, of course, there is someone at the door…..
Dogs are important to our family pack. They want love and recognition for a job well done. This may be of help to some of our dogs and their people but some of them need a closer look into what is going on.
